Diving into a Bizarre Steam Game Trial: Guiding a Poop in a Mission to Arrive at the Toilet

Steam Next Fest is now live, and players have found a variety of interesting creations from small studios. But, one catches the eye for its quirky concept. Named Unko Technica, this classic-feel side-scrolling game features a hero that is literally a dung striving to make its way to a commode. For those curious, "Unko" translates to "poop."

The gameplay is straightforward: press a one button to leap. Across 150 challenges, battle boss fights and unlock a shop to acquire customizations for your fecal avatar.

Time your jumps carefully, since one mistake forces beginning again. Bounce using floating orbs to hurl yourself to new heights, cross fragile surfaces, and activate triggers to open new areas. Collect currency for buying tougher game content as the action gets crazy.

In terms of design, the game boasts eye-catching stages and an amazing soundtrack. The retro visual style with moving geometric shapes evokes memories of gamers of classic titles like Earthbound.

While it's difficult to name previous releases where you play as a piece of feces, video games often featured scatological themes. For instance, in Death Stranding, you can create grenades from protagonist excrement. Titles such as Palworld and Ark: Survival Evolved employ manure as fertilizer. And of course, fecal references is present heavily in the role-playing game The Stick of Truth.

Despite its silly idea, Unko Technica has already earned impressive accolades, such as taking top honors at Bandai Namco's game competition in 2023. The demo is accessible now on Steam, with the full game set to debut on PC in the fall.
