Previous Down Under Public Figure Sentenced for Above Half a Decade for Criminal Acts
An ex- Australian politician found guilty of assaulting two young men connected through professional activities received a sentence to nearly six years in detention.
Case Details
The defendant, forty-four, was in prison since July after judicial panel convicted him of raping one man and attacking a second person, in different occasions in over two years.
The politician represented the oceanfront municipality of the regional area in the NSW legislature from the year 2011. He left his position as a government minister when the claims surfaced in 2021 but refused to quit his seat and returned to office in last year.

The presiding officer the judicial figure evaluated Ward's disability of sight disability in the ruling and determined "no different consequence besides imprisonment is appropriate".
The defendant, who appeared via remote connection at the courthouse, will complete at least nearly four years in custody before he can seek parole.
Justice Shead declared the legal system needs to "send a stern message to like-minded offenders that illegal behaviors such as this will be met with salutary penalties".

The judge added the convicted man had "evaded consequences for ten years and enjoyed a life without a treatment or punishment for the offenses during that time".
Post-trial, Ward initiated a failed legal bid to continue in government and stepped down shortly before the legislature could oust him.
Representatives has previously said he intends to appeal the ruling.
Incident Details
His extended court case in the state court learned that he asked a intoxicated 18-year-old man to his property in 2013 and sexually abused him on multiple occasions, despite the victim's efforts to resist.
Subsequently, he sexually assaulted a mid-twenties government employee at his home after a function at government offices.
He had maintained the later assault was fabricated, and that the additional accuser was misremembering their encounter from the first incident.
However, prosecutors contended that notable parallels in the accounts of the individuals, who were unacquainted with each other, proved they were accurate in their accounts.
Court members considered for three days before returning the findings of guilt.
Ward's resignation led to a replacement vote in Kiama in September, which was secured by the Labor candidate.
