The Super Mario Galaxy Movie Trailer Debuts, Introducing New Characters Rosalina & Bowser Jr. Voices

The collaboration between Nintendo and Illumination released the initial complete preview for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie on Wednesday. The reveal happened in a Nintendo-focused broadcast that highlighted the soon-to-release cartoon movie.

The sequel to the 2023 hit film The Super Mario Bros. Movie, this fresh entry will propel Mario to the far corners of the cosmos. There, he will encounter a fresh princess character and a challenging new adversary in Bowser Jr., the son of the King of the Koopas.

An Interstellar Journey Drawing from Beloved Titles

In the vein of the games from the Wii period that provide its foundation, Mario will leave behind the well-known surroundings of the Mushroom Kingdom to journey through the cosmos. Throughout his extensive trek, he will encounter once more some familiar faces, for instance the Luma, a fan favorite from the original cinematic release.

Yet it looks like Mario and his brother Luigi will confront a new threat in the form of Bowser's furious offspring, who apparently wields metal-based powers. Notably, the teaser for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie is not solely focused on Galaxy-themed scenes; it also contains hints to other beloved games like Super Mario Odyssey and Bowser's Fury.

Celebrity Voice Actors Returns and Expands

The movie will welcome back of the primary vocal talent, with Chris Pratt as Mario, Anya Taylor-Joy as Peach, Charlie Day as Luigi, Jack Black as Bowser, Keegan-Michael Key as Toad, and Kevin Michael Richardson as Kamek.

Joining the cast for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie are Brie Larson, who will portray Rosalina, and Benny Safdie, set to embody Bowser Jr. It was announced by the CEO of Illumination, Chris Meledandri.

A Significant Period for Mario

The new Mario movie is set to release near the 40th anniversary of the first Super Mario Bros. title. In addition to the movie, 2026 looks set to be a major period for Mario and his companions.

Nintendo has a trio of new releases publicly declared for that year, including Mario Tennis Fever, a version for Switch 2 of Super Mario Bros. Wonder, and a new Yoshi platformer titled Yoshi and the Mysterious Book.

Premiere Date Announced

The Super Mario Galaxy Movie is planned for launch on April 3, 2026.
