Thomas Tuchel Questions Wembley Fan Atmosphere Despite Comfortable Win Over Wales.
The England head coach shared his regret that the England team did not get greater support from the Wembley fans during their impressive triumph over Wales on Thursday evening.
The manager was happy to see his side maintain their strong performance, with goals from Rogers, Ollie Watkins, and Bukayo Saka inside the initial stages settling the contest. However, he was not content with the energy at the iconic venue.
“With one and a half sessions to get ready against a well-trained team and we did very well,” Tuchel commented. “We could have been 5-0 up at the break. We missed the additional ones. It was quiet. We didn’t get support back from the crowd. We did everything to win.”
“What more can you provide in 20 minutes? We didn’t let them get away. If you hear just Wales fans for 30 minutes, it’s regrettable because the team warranted more support today.”
“I stand by my words. We cannot do more than being 3-0 in a rivalry match. I hoped for a greater support in periods where it becomes tough.”
“After halftime, to support us, there was excessive backing for the opposition. It could have helped us to regain energy, but that’s football and so be it.”
Selection Choices Vindicated by Display
Apart from potentially starting a dispute among supporters, the manager also caused a stir by omitting Bellingham and Foden from his squad. Yet the choice was backed up by Morgan Rogers impressing again in the attacking midfield role and netting his maiden goal for his country.
“He plays his game,” the head coach explained. “He is a No 10 and he is vying for his place.”
Wales Manager Hopes for Lessons from Defeat
The Wales manager expressed hope that Wales, who host Belgium in a crucial World Cup qualifier on Monday, improve after their disappointing first-half display.
“That’s the reason I scheduled this game,” the manager stated. “I need to see our current level. What are our ambitions? Who do we want to be? This performance fills me with inspiration.”
Injury Concern for Striker
Ollie Watkins was withdrawn at half-time after colliding with a goalpost and may miss out when England face Latvia in Riga in a qualifier on Tuesday.
